Davies® Aqua Metal Primer – Water-Based Anti-Corrosive Primer for Metal Surfaces

Overview

Davies® Aqua Metal Primer is a high-performance, water-based anti-corrosive primer designed for use on ferrous and non-ferrous metal surfaces. Specially formulated with rust-inhibitive pigments, it provides excellent adhesion and corrosion protection, making it an ideal base coat for metal gates, railings, structural steel, roofing, and other metal substrates.

Unlike traditional solvent-based metal primers, Davies Aqua Metal Primer is eco-friendly, low odor, and easy to clean—making it safer to use in both indoor and outdoor environments. It is the recommended primer for water-based topcoats such as Davies® Megacryl™, Roofshield™, or Fusion™ when applied over metal.

Application Guidelines

Surface Preparation:

Ensure the metal surface is free from rust, oil, grease, mill scale, and other contaminants. Sand or wire-brush rusty surfaces and wipe clean before applying primer.

Application Methods:

Brush, roller, or spray

Thinning:

Use as is or thin with up to 10% clean water if necessary

Drying Time:

• Touch Dry: 30 minutes
• Recoat: 2–3 hours

Coverage:

25–30 square meters per 4L per coat, depending on substrate and method of application

Topcoat Compatibility:

Safety & Clean-Up:

• Use in a well-ventilated area
• Wear appropriate PPE (gloves and safety goggles)
• Clean tools with water immediately after use
• Store tightly sealed in a cool, dry place
