Davies® Hi-Solids Sanding Sealer DV-701 is a premium nitrocellulose (NC) basecoat designed to seal, fill, and smooth wood surfaces before the application of clear or pigmented topcoats. Its high solid content ensures excellent build, adhesion, and sandability, making it ideal for achieving a glass-smooth finish in both furniture manufacturing and woodcraft refinishing.

This fast-drying sealer penetrates the grain to lock in stains, evens out porosity, and prepares the surface for lacquer topcoats such as Davies® Hi-Solids Clear Gloss Lacquer DV-702, ensuring an ultra-smooth, durable final finish.

Application Guidelines

Surface Preparation:

Ensure wood is dry, clean, and free from dust, oil, or wax. Sand surface using medium to fine grit (e.g., 180–220 grit) before application.

Application Methods:

Apply by spray for best results. Brush application is possible for smaller jobs.

Thinning:

Thin with Davies® Lacquer Thinner (typically 20–30%) to desired viscosity

Drying Time:

• Touch Dry: 15–30 minutes
• Sandable: 1 hour
• Recoat: After sanding and dust removal
• Full Cure: 24 hours

Sanding:

Sand between coats using fine grit sandpaper (320–400 grit) to ensure smooth surface before applying lacquer or topcoat

Coverage:

10–12 square meters per liter per coat (depending on wood type and surface porosity)

Finish:

Flat/semi-matte; designed for undercoating

Safety & Clean-Up:

• Flammable – keep away from ignition sources
• Work in a well-ventilated area or use proper PPE (respirator, gloves)
• Avoid prolonged inhalation or skin contact
• Clean equipment immediately after use with Davies® Lacquer Thinner
• Store in sealed containers in a cool, dry location
• Keep out of reach of children
